Mother Workshop
This four-week workshop is for you if any of the following statements are true:
I have a mother and it’s hard. I don’t have a mother and it’s hard.
I am a mother and it's hard. I'm not a mother and it's hard.
I lost my mother. I never knew my mother.
I hate my mother. I love my mother.
I'll always be a mother.
I'll never be a mother.
In this four-week workshop, we will explore the vast subject of Mother from various lenses. You will be invited into your own writing practice through deep listening and observation of grief, loss, excitement, joy, trauma, and connection.
Like all writing circles with Doula of Words, this workshop is a safe, generative, welcoming, and warm environment, which is open to all. You don't have to be a published writer or be working on something specific to find a home with us.
This workshop is a self-guided offering designed to be taken are your own pace. Each Sunday for four weeks (starting the first Sunday after you sign up,) I will be sending you poems, giving thoughtful prompts, and creating a container for all who attend to listen and share as much as they wish. I will also share every resource I have available to me, on the subject of mother, including important books, videos, and tools.
If you have any questions, please email olinyky@gmail.com
*there are no refunds for this course and your participation is non-transferrable.

What This Workshop Is Not:
Therapy! I am not a therapist and I do not have any professional designations in therapy trauma, PTSD, grief counseling, etc. If you are feeling especially tender about the subject of mother, I ask that you please consider carefully if this workshop is the right space for you at this time. We will welcome anyone who wants to take this workshop, no matter where you are at with your relationship to ‘mother,’ but please consider this before you sign up.
Exclusive to Mothers! We welcome women, folx with wombs, trans folx, and anyone who is looking to explore their relationship with ‘mother.’ This workshop is for you if you identify as a tried, burnout, exhausted mom, child-free, childless, mother of one or eight or anything in between, stepmom, bonus mom, begrudging mom, soon to be mom, grandmother, etc.
An Open Mic! We will be using a technique called free writing in this workshop. As much as I want to hear your beautiful and tragic poetry, this workshop is not the space for sharing previously written work. I ask that you read only what we’ve written that day, during the workshop. In Week Five, there will be an opportunity to share something you wrote outside of class if you wish, but please respect that this is not an open mic workshop.
A Place To “Drop In.” This is our first multi-week workshop and unlike other workshops I lead, this workshop is not for drop-ins. Before signing up, I ask that you confirm that you will be present at least four of the five weeks. Class runs every Sunday (on February 26th, March 5th, March 12th, March 19th, and March 26th) at 2pm (est) and each session will last 2 hours.
This workshop is NOT open to people who are racist, homophobic, transphobic, fatphobic, meanspirited, or anti-choice. Yoda reserves the right to remove anyone from class if they violate our agreed-upon workshop principles.
